@00:24Thanks!
Originally, it was to be a complete short animation based around the ides 'the audition', but the brief changed to a ten second walk cycle.
Also, I was running out of time and motivation ^^;

My character for 3D, semester 2.
His name is Lloyd, and he is a mime.
The weight painting in this is shite (if you don't know what weight painting is, consider yourself very lucky)
So this is him walking, pushing an invisible crate, and then super-jumping (with motion blur!™;)

Composited onto a photo of the Kalide theatre at RMIT.

Oh wow's dude. so awesome. great movement. did you take a video to get that motion right pushing the box? because the sense of weight it perfecto... specially considering there is no box, lol
are you going to make a full animation with him? it seems like a shame if you don't use him for something else, while he's looking so cool. :D

(don't even get me started on how bad my weight paints are, i barely changed them :P )

No, I don't think I'll use him again. You see, I've come to hate him for all the corners I cut. He just doesn't work right at all...
And no, I didn't take any video. (which'll mean I loose criteria because I never submitted one ^^;) I just did the same thing I do for 2D. Act it out one keyframe at a time. I was pushing on my wall to get the weight right, as walls don't move at all.

@00:35That is awesome!:D Everything moved smoothly. How do you do that!haha
But I am thoroughly curious to know what weight painting is.

@00:35Well, in real life, you have bones, muscle and skin.
The muscle ataches the skin to the bone, so when a bone moves, the skin moves accordingly.

In Maya (scary-million-drop-down-menu-3D-program) weight-painting is what binds skin to bone.
So you go through every bone in your rig (3D speak for skelleton) and tell the skin which polygons are going to move with this bone.
UNFORTUNATELY, if your cursor slips a little (or if Maya just feels like it) you can accidently tell the wrong polygons to move with the wrong bones.
For example, with my character Lloyd there, his right hand effects a couple of polygons inside his mouth, casusing him to have a big pink spike to come out of his cheek if I move his hand in a certain way. His jaw bone also seems to effect his crotch.

:D

@00:35My Gosh! I never new that 3-d animation was so complicated.O.o
But thank you for explaining it to me. I'm happy to tell you, however, that b/c the mime looks so far away, I did not see the spike coming out of cheek, and neither did I see anything exciting happen to his er....crotch.:D Unless you already fixed those problems.^^
All in all it still looks great.

Nope. None of it was fixed becuase he was so far away. :D
When he's pushing the crate though, you can (or I can anyways) see his jaw flip upside down so his bottom teeth are facing the ground. It's quite scary, close up...
